The Student Accountability Information System (SAIS) is a student detail level data collection for the whole Department of Education Agency. Although a large portion of the data is collected primarily for School Finance purposes and the payment of state aid, many other program areas may produce data extracts to calculate measures for their own particular needs.
During the fiscal year LEAs may submit data for any purpose to keep SAIS update as much as possible. Since School Finance is currently the only program area that maintains this access it is important that when the fiscal year closes, access to upload prior fiscal year data must be authorized by a program area.
There are many reasons for this process.
- Depending on the data measure a program area may or may not choose to extract the data using validation and aggregation rules.
- The program area may have a specific submission deadline to preserve the integrity of the data extract or the appeals process. There may also be a need to not allow the raw data to change during that processing time.
- School Finance does not want to mislead LEAs into thinking that simply submitting a change in data will affect the desired data measure to be re-calculated. A recalculation of any data measure should always be coordinated through the appropriate program area.
